What a superb shop, looks to be an Aladdin's cave with Brown Betty teapots, jugs, kerosene lamps and all manner of other items in the windows, and I'd imagine he'd know where anything was if asked.
There used to be hundreds of shops like this one in Scholes. I recall my friend and I would be allowed to ‘dress’ the window in her auntie’s shop on Vauxhall Rd sometimes. (The one with all the toffee in it!) Boxes on the bottom and jars on shelves , which we would dust. We loved that job! Ginny Dyke’s saying was always
“ save mi legs and do this for me!”) ;o)) We even cleaned the outside lavvy for her!
( after we’d done the window though!) we were only about 10 at the time…
Irene you still can, it is directly opposite St Elizabeth's school on Bolton Road Aspull. Although it has changed somewhat.
