A photo I took 60 years ago, in 1960, of the Plantation Gates. Compared to the recently posted photo by Bill Woodcock, it was 23 years later than that of the photo taken his father, who took his view from the other side in 1937.

Can anyone tell me the date this gate structure was constructed?

According to Historic England, it was constructed around 1840.

"GATEWAY AND LODGES TO HAIGH HALL PARK, WIGAN LANE" Now that makes sense. I asked about the date, as I wondered about our calling it 'Plantation Gates' when it apparently pre-dates the laying out of the plantations.
