One of the full size windows has been removed for cleaning (opening boarded up).One of the hazards to the employees working on the project was pigeons and dust.As H&S adviser that is where I came in to ensure that precautions were being taken as well as general safety.
As an aside, Rawlings were also on site at Deanery High School on extension works so I was also visiting that contract during the same period..

At The Deanery, as well, were you, Barrie - In demand, what. And teasing away St John's giant window must have given a few scary moments.

Philip, like the old song goes "I've been everywhere man,I've been everywhere". Yep, Deanery High School (or was it All Saints School in the 50's & 60's?) was an extension build contract that started early January '92 and completed November that year. I had to investigate a serious accident there during the summer involving a joiner who fell 3m and was taken to Wigan Infirmary (and that brought back memories visiting there). A specialist contractor was brought into remove the Stain Glass windows, a young female ran the company and I think she was local to the area. She knew her stuff regarding dealing with lead and the health risks. Has the church been renovated since 1992?

Yes, Barrie, you're a man of tremendous experience, with a library to match; your picture Training Aids is very special. Regarding your reference to 1992, the unfortunate fellow, the 'Infirmary and the lady overseer, I'm reminded of the seven days that I spent in the Christopher Home, suffering from two mis-placed discs, and of the look-in by the patient in the next room; My workmate's wife. How rum is that. Look forward to seeing more of your 'photos from the heart'.

My husband worked on this, he did the lead work on the roof.He also did St. Mary's as well,It would be a bit earlier than that when He did the lead on St.George's.

Edna if you walk past there these days, I'm sure you will still see him waving to you in your minds eye... xx

Barrie - I think you may be referring to Linda Walton of Design Lights at Blackrod. She has carried out a number of local commissions and major repairs - but Googling her reveals that she is now working in Scotland - though the Blackrod firm is still going.

Thanks for the info Rev. It got the old grey matter working again and I think you could be right. At the back of the mind Blackrod was mentioned in my talks with her. 28 years ago now. I left Rawlings in 1994 and unfortunately they ceased trading in 1996.
