Wally Whittle sold me the Levi jacket for £3 the robbin’ bugger !
Mind you it went with my Levi jeans purchased in 1966 and still wearing ‘em 5 years later !
Eric
Maybe if I was 8 inches taller - Make my day punk !
Remember from Dirty Harry 😜
This photo reminds me of lines in Rod Stewart's song 'I was only joking' "Me and boys thought we had it sussed,Valentino's all of us.My dad said we looked ridiculous but boy we broke some hearts"
Don’t know the boys but recognise them from around Wigan in the early seventies.
I can remember them from the Casino and maybe the rugby club
Stephen/ Kath
We spent our time mostly in the Crofters and Ball and Boot before heading to the Casino. Saturday afternoons you may find us on the railings outside Woolies before popping into the rugby league club house. Some Saturday nights we would head off to Blackpool to the Mecca on coach. I remember me and Charlie Watson thumbed a lift on the Standish slip road of the M6 once !!! The car which was a Jag, dropped us off outside the Mecca.
I loved going to Blackpool Mecca, brilliant music in the Highland Room !
Kath
We went to the Mecca from 1968 until 1971. Took Unsworths coach from Market Square.
The DJ was called Tony Jebb and he always played Drifters "Saturday Night At The Movies" for us Wigan lads !
I went out with a Kathleen Crank from Hindley. You're not her ?
No Johnny, that's not me but I do remember you and your mates, sadly quite a few of them no longer around I believe. One of my favourite tunes to dance to was 'Roadrunner',by Junior Walker.
You look very dapper Johnny.
Thank you Maureen
I dont remember where the hat came from !
Maybe C&A.....(coats and 'ats)
Johnny,I think a hat puts the finishing touch to any rigout...I have one similar to yours I got in Lord Street Southport.
No doubt Maureen you’ d look bonnie in it😉
Kate
I remember Road Runner, Knock On Wood, Four Tops, Green Onions and others.
Sadly a few lads and girls have passed. The Watson bros, Kenny Harmer, Harold Foster , Deano and Jimmy Seddon RIP
Hello John yes I remember all of those tunes. How lucky were we to have all that great music around ! So sad that so many of your mates have passed away, I'm sure they are looking down and still rockin' a good tune where they are though !
Don’t forget Coco Johnny.R.I.P Paul Goodman.
How could I miss him !
Paul Goodman RIP
Got a pic of him in IOM 1969 in old-fashioned swim suit.
Try and put it on WW
Have you bought my book yet, Pey ?
Like to think so Kath
So dreadful this virus. Hope you are keeping safe.
As you know a few R&B, bands played the Casino, notably Johnny Johnson & Band Wagon and Stylistics.
Great nights as you say. Now where is that Time Machine ;0)
Yes Johnny, you're right,so many good bands seen there, and local popular bands were Harlem John's Reshuffle and Edward John Concern. This virus is terrifying. My garden has never had such care lavished on it ! I know, where did the time go ? Hard to believe it's 50 years ago !!
Kate
Fifty years ago we'd be off to Newquay this summer. Met in Crofters night before and drove down thru the night. Had no-where to stay but soon found a guest house. Surprising they would take in us scallies from Wigan !!
Read my book Kate - Alright, lads ! Its laddish but you may find it entertaining !
I'm doing loads of gardening and DIY. Mind you the weather has been kind.
Keep safe
I along with 5 other lads from Plessey's went to Newquay in 1969 stayed in a caravan. Stayed overnight in a gust house near Bristol Airport on our way down. Never got a wink of sleep with cars whizzing past all night. I remember listening to the Moon landing on a car radio Great Times. with a good bunch of lads. I'll post some photos when I dig them out..
Looking forward to that Ron. Take care.
I know what you mean about going on holiday after going out,I remember going to Torquay in 1970,from Wigan Market Square and getting there about 6am ! I went to I.O.M.in August 1969,I'm sure I'll enjoy your book, especially for the nostalgia.
Kate
I was at the IOM in July 1969 (see pic on ALBUM) and I hope you enjoy the book. Its a bit tongue in cheek but I'm sure you will enjoy it (Kindle or paper-back)
Take care.
I'm sure I will enjoy it Johnny, paperback for me,I prefer physically holding a book. Thanks again.
Sorry Kath (referred to you as Kate)
Apologies
It's fine Johnny, just another version of same name.
Thank you Kath
Or Kathleen, Katherine or Katy 😉
Don’t forget to let me have your critique of the book 3xdrw
