This is me around about 1954/55 at the petrol station opposite the Boars Head pub. No doubt someone will be able to identify the car in the background!

Sorry Philip G , don't quite follow your comments!!!!!

The car looks like a Standard 8 or 10 convertible.

A play on childhood's whimsy, Graham: The flexible hose leading to your backpack ensuring that you had sufficient fuel for you to reach Dorothy, Toto and the rest of the crew. I saw the film, hinted at, about the time your photo was taken, at a cinema in St Helens.

I think you are right Derek. The model had a Union Jack, in the middle of the front of the the bonnet.

A family used to run it, lived just up Wigan Road, couldn't do enough for you. Them where the days.

And the garage is still going in 2020. It has under gone several facelifts and name changes over the years and is presently an Esso. It was a Mobil in the 1980s & 90s then a BP up until a few years ago.

Chris, it was an Esso outlet until fairly recently and is currently a Shell outlet.
