My first 3 piece suite came from here and carpet for living room and stairs. It's as if it was yesterday. Marvellous set of photos. Thank you for putting them on, it's so refreshing to see different views of shops, it looks higgledy piggledy but it was good furniture.

I remember The Ribble Cabinet Company...it was a well-known name in Wigan. Millgate had such character in those days before that Horrible Head..... The Face That Sunk A Thousand Shops.....took Centre Stage and we lost so much; the old baths, the welfare clinic, The Ship, The Boro' Café/fish and chip shop, and numerous little shops and cafes. But then that's Progress, isn't it...isn't it??

I like Ribble's melodic 'three F,s tagline', and the happy, harmless toper on his 'downward path' (I refuse to see hit any other way.).

Was that Hallidays next to Ribble Cabinet?

This country these days has lost a lot of it's identity, brought about by our changing shopping habits and foreigners with different ideas.
Great photo, Frank.
