It always seems a shame to run cars over a fresh fall of snow. I know people have to get about but they don't half leave a mess behind.

Everywhere looks magical with fresh snowfall, but Haigh Hall more so! I bet there were coal fires burning in every room in Victorian times, no shortages of coal for the Lord and Lady of the hall then...

Veronica, if his Lordship ran a bit short of coal he would just send one of his flunkies out to the nearest of his Pits with a message to the Manager telling him to throw a few more children down the shaft and not to let them back up until his stocks had been replenished.

I quite like the sound and feel of compressed snow, when underfoot, DTease, and how the drivers' return to our roads - as messy as our roads then become - seem to quell my fear of the dangers cast; What's safe for the car … . Nice pic. Thanks.

I don't know where the Dickens I've got the 'dangers cast' from - perhaps I'm still dancing from having seen Scrooge come to his senses.

Not forgetting the logs in the wood shed - if they can't get the horse and cart through the deep snow t'pits. Can't have his Lordship withdrawing to the drawing room for his cigar and brandy and no fire to stoke!

Best to enjoy the snow on the hills away from the infernal things. Yet even here we feel guilty about ruining the soft squeaky white velvet lying fresh and newly fallen on the moor.
Yet the temptation to leave some tracks on a lonely road is not just irresistible but somehow a human need.

Yes Pip it is. It's approachable via Langtree Lane, which lies pretty close to the Pepper Lane / Preston Road junction. My regards and respect to you my friend.

DTease, talking about people leaving a mess behind.Just take a look sometime in Westwood cemetery. They litrilly drive their cars over the grass verge, so you can imagine the mess that leaves more so in wet weather. No respect whatsoever.
