Billy Boston was once the Landlord here.
I wouldn't fancy the job of compiling this pile's list of architectural parts, DTease, . . . just think, grappling with all those lovely tongue-twisting Greco-Roman names. I do like the diadem-looking parts just above the central outer windows, though. And perhaps just two scrambled rows of 'Holly and berries' - dazzling in the night - this Yule.
It's definitely a bit 'frivolous' and 'overdone' Philip.
i played darts for wigan super league when billy boston had it & also played in the wigan observer for them when we won it .
I remember watching the area final of the News of the World at this venue (or was it at The Bowling Green) in the late 60s?, Whups. Freddy Hill won it against the likes of Fred Chadwick and Dickie walls - Pat Brown was in attendance, but I'm not sure if he'd played that night. The Grand Final could have been played at Ally-Pally, and I seem to remember someone saying that Freddy had been beaten there by a chap from Bury. It's all so long ago.
It’s all so long ago ,
the time that’s me ,
children in dirt clothes ,
but eyes spark free .
we ran downt street hand in hand ,
me and Mary , back was Ann ,
Mill was up top , passed coal mans rain ,
his carried back on my childhood brain .
we do forget , but perhaps not me ,
the , So long along ago ,
I know was me ...
