The Crofters is still a Pub and so is the Bricklayers further down. Even further down the red brick building is All Saints Tavern and behind that is the Grand Hotel.
I’m sure there is a good reason for those gates and the traffic light but they don’t half clutter the place up.

In the 60's, dinnertime, walking up Hallgate out of the pub n the left came this group of young men, all dressed in black one of whom had a rabbits foot hanging off his belt. That night we were going to The Ritz to see PJ Proby, manager came on stage said his tour has been cancelled (his trousers kept splitting) and they had got a replacement. On the stage came the young man we had seen at lunchtime coming out of the pub and that was the start of Tom Jones career.
