Blimey DTease, that's a view of the Wigan flight that we don't often see.
I well remember that chimney like brick structure in the foreground , in fact I may even have a photograph of it myself , but I don't think there's much sign of it nowadays.
Familiarity , as you know, being famous for breeding contempt , I never bothered to ascertain it's purpose, so perhaps you could educate me, seeing as how I'm a relative stranger in this paradise that is known as
Wigan, whereas in Klondyke terminology, you'd most likely fall within the parameters of ' sourdough '.
Respect. Ozy.
Ozy, the chimney like structure to which you refer was I think, part of the munitions factory that once stood there. I think the workshops were later taken over by the NCB. I remember as a young lad in the 1950s the gang would rummage through the dump to find empty bullet cases Hmmmm ! looking back I think it perhaps wasn't a good idea. We once found a hand grenade would you believe.
The building in the foreground was Albion Iron works, the pay-house is now a home called Albion Cottage.
