I used to be an Alter Boy at St Johns.

There are two churches in New Springs, St John the Baptist (CE), and Holy Family (RC). I think there was also a Methodist church on the main road that was demolished in the 1980s. A former vicar of St John's was Canon John Sharples who had only one arm and was previously the headmaster of the Deanery High School.

There where 2 chapels on the main road , 1 on the corner of chapel street & the main road & 1 just over the boundary between Aspull & Wigan on the same side going down.
