Great picture.
Same here John !
Not much changed here either.. I was very naughty a couple of weeks ago. I forgot my pass so I looked pleadingly at the ticket chap at the barrier -but it didn't work, he told me to go to the counter very sympathetically,to the end of a queue. When he wasn't looking I ran off! But I knew I would have to pay going back home - so I went on the bus going back. I looked pleadingly at the driver - " Eee go on luv - ne'er mind" The difference in some folk - and he was young! ( They're not all bad! ) I reckon I saved myself a fiver!
What's changed here Veronica is the Victoria Hotel is now a block of flats. Another pub to bite the dust, although the conversion has been done sympathetically.
I didn't know that John D - I must look next time I come off the station. I am reminded of a young woman named Ellen Jeffries who worked at the hotel as a launderess in 1900 and was murdered by her husband William Woods, her body was found in the canal. I have the book ' Foul Deeds & Suspicious Deaths' by Mike Fletcher with the story of the murder, a very interesting book.
