Thanks to Tom Walsh for the photo.
The shop on here named 'Mort's' was a jewellers in the late 1960's.Has been a carpet shop for many years.
The jewellers shop was owned by the Bromelows.
This is the corner of Market Strreet and Low Mill Lane.I think one of these shops was an electrical called Sharples in the 50/60's
Yes Elizabeth it looks like the Select a Carpet shop owned by Tom Walsh’s business partner.
If you look around the office upstairs you could be forgiven for thinking you were back to the time of the photograph. The small calculator and the carpet samples being the only concessions to the present era.
Both Tom and Chris are treasures to deal with as, no doubt, many customers from the Wigan area will testify.
Yes Roger, you are right. They are really nice to deal with.
Veronica , the way this building was built , I will miss , more than I can explain. Anyone with a clue will see the detail . I have never understood, if a building has such a foundation like the Victorian’s built , why our mindset chose to flatten those buildings . I know most will comment on the inside , but ‘restore’ for me , is the best polish of boots . We look but we don’t see . We have somehow learned or have be taught or pushed , not to let be ..
A side view of that shop with a young lad sat on the window with Lowe Mill in the background.
