Were there originally two platforms at Central station?

There were 3 platforms originally + 2 bays, platforms 2 & 3 were taken up, But the 2 tracks on the right were left & used for storing carriages. If the line had been completed platform 2 would would have been the line to Manchester Central.

There would appear to be three platforms in this picture. This station was originally built as a 'through' station because it was the intention of the Great Central Railway to continue on to Blackpool. They bought some land further along but the plan was never realised and they sold the land further along. Central Park was built on some of that land and it is possible it was called 'Central Park' in honour of the Great Central Railway.
