...now this chap is at the other end of life’s journey. He’s done HIS hard yards, he’s raised a family, clothed them, fed them and kept a roof over their heads. Now he has some time for himself and he chooses to spend it on the canal bank fishing. For a few precious hours all the cares and woes of the BBC News are left behind and he can sit there with his sleeves rolled up and his flat cap keeping the sun off his head.
All he hears is the sound of water lap lap lapping against the canal bank, all he sees is his float bobbing up and down in the middle of the canal and for just a little while he is a young lad again with nothing more than a stick, a few maggots and a lot of hope.

Lovely pic & words DTease. You took many a good photo to remind us of time not long ago that was so different.
Thank you.

To introduce your young son/grandson, young daughter/granddaughter to the tranquil art of course fishing has great beneficial outcomes, both in a healthy pastime, and contentment of mind. When my son was seven, a friend asked me if I wanted to buy a fishing rod for ten Bob. Which I did. My son’ enthusiasm has never waned. He is in several fishing clubs, and now retired, fishes in three county police teams. Next week he is fishing in Yorkshire, as a member of the Kent Police Team, against other police teams

They don’t look all that contented when we boaters pass by.... It’s very different in France - we get cheery waves and smiles - and there are often whole families by the bank - not just the solitary male.
