Great photo. i'll take the Triumph Daytona.
I remember a John Picton from Gidlow school. His parents had a fish and chip shop on Gidlow Lane. Is it the same John who is in the photo?
Good collection of machinery here and the weather looks just right for a blast to the barn. Some bikes I recognise, others a guess. L to R, Triumph Bonneville, Honda CX500, Bike with handlebar fairing Kawasaki Z650, another immaculate Bonneville, possibly a CB350 Honda and what looks like a Yamaha XS650 on the end. Sorry to hear about your mates Philip.
John picton and janet!
You never Drank shandy phil?
Good memories of Graham and Bill
I guess we all miss our past biker friends no more than me, I still ride with my wife Janet who stands next to Linda, I road a Honds CB750KZ them days and now I ride an Honda CB1100RS.
I would to meet the rest of us that's left maybe a reunion to remember the days.
I remember an Ian who mentioned me but don't remember his surname.
I would love to speak to you Philip Croasdale .
Keep safe all of you!
John Picton
First of all, I'm not the Ian who posted in 2019.
I just want to say, I know the area very well and, actually, it is Marylebone - as it states under the photo - and not Mariebonne. The photo, for those who aren't certain, was taken about 200m away (towards Wigan Royal Infirmary) from The Cherry Gardens and the bikes are standing on Wigan Lane; approximately, opposite Leyland Mill Lane.
Although I am not on the photograph, I know a number of the names and knew some of these teenagers quite well.
By the way, isn't it Gez and not Ged?
Like George, I can't picture some of those teenagers drinking Shandy.
So sorry to hear about 'Big' Bill Jones being no longer with us. He was a really nice guy.
By the way, I have a photograph, which predates the one above, and Bill is on it.
By the way Ian who wrote recently, all the information you saw and writen was done years after the event and our memories are not the same, but as for Ged that is what we called him, and as for mariebonne is what we called the area. Shandy is what we was drinking them days before riding on our bikes, can't see a problem with that, it's different when we went out at night time as we walked.
What photos do you have and of who ?
I would say this photo was taken in Milton Grove.
The benches in the background are facing Wigan Lane opposite Leyland Mill Lane. You can see the long wall and the entrance to the driveway belonging to the house on the corner of Leyland Mill Lane and Wigan Lane.
Rich
You are bob on mate, the photo was in Milton Grove, nice spotting.
The rose bed just behind us was confusing, but many things as changed since them days, I also spotted the gate posts to the Large walled House, top of Leylnad Mill Lane.
John, I think that you 'got the wrong end of the stick', because I wasn't trying to be facetious or to anathematize any part of what had been placed previously. I only wished to clarify the name and the area to readers who may not have been so familiar with that particular part of Wigan.
The Cherry Gardens and Wigan Royal Infirmary are probably known to more people of Wigan and the surrounding areas than Marylebone. I also wanted to support any person wishing to find 'Marylebone' on Google Maps. For us, we know the area. But, people from other areas of the town and bordering areas of Wigan, Marylebone is possibly unknown. Additionally, there aren't any identifying buildings and one small park can easily be mistaken for another.
Regarding my opening words, I only wanted to emphasize that I hadn't posted previously and, therefore, avoid any confusion over matters such as certain knowledge. I did not attend Gidlow Middle School and although I do remember a 'Fish & Chip Shop' in the mentioned area, I have no memory of the owner's name.
I am under the illusion that you were deeply offended by my words. If this is so, I am sorry for the misunderstanding.
