The numberplate of the Mayor's car, AEK1, was mentioned in a Comment some days ago. Here it is on a 2004 Volvo S80 2.4 D5 Auto, parked up whilst the Mayor for the year, Cllr. Eunice Smethurst, performed the Opening of our Summer Fair in the Hall next door.
The numberplate is now carried on a hire car from Blackpool under a contract to supply the Mayor's transport (according to a 2018 Press report about the reaction of local taxi drivers to this news).

Speaking of Wigan car registrations, I have often wondered who got W 1 GAN when it became avalable.

When Mr Pye was the Mayor of Wigan, he got on his push bike and had a race against his driver from his Shevington house to the Wigan Town Hall

Garry. There is a number plate W1GAN. A few years ago it was on a Range Rover in the Stockton Heath area. Used to see it regularly and took a photo of it for a mate.
