I can remember when the individual signs each had a stylised human finger pointing towards the various destinations, hence the name Finger Post.

Ed, the building behind the shops is the Library, to the left, the Clinic, behind the clinic would be the doctors surgery then behind that further up Haigh Road was the Labour Club now a Co-op store.
