In the occupied territories of Blackrod!!

Knowing how touchy Alan is about his boundaries Brian B, I thought I would make it clear from the beginning that Shoemaker Fold was not in Aspull. Sadly, it doesn’t seem to have made much difference.

Got to agree with Alan, it is in Bolton.

I seem to recall many years ago coming home from work at the ROF through Blackrod back to Wigan. I was told Blackrod was partly Wigan and partly Bolton- I don't know whether that still applies or not! I know I didn't dream it!

Veronica, Blackrod is part of Bolton in the same way that Aspull is part of Wigan. I deliberately wrote "Shoemaker Fold, BLACKROD" to signify that it was over the boundary from Aspull, but Alan is Alan and I can't tell you how much I have missed his happy smiling comments.

It's right I was told that Dtease. As a young girl I knew workmates from Blackrod. I may have had 'jolly robins' in my head at that time but nevertheless, that stuck with me! Perhaps they felt more akin to Wigan!

Heres one for you Wigan Golf Club, Arley Hall itself is in Blackrod

Do you know TONKER????

Arley Hall..WN1 2UH.

Alan, postcodes are not indicative of the local authority. For example, Golborne which is part of Wigan borough has a Warrington postcode (WA). Likewise, Southport has a Preston postcode (PR). Burnley has a Blackburn postcode (BB). I assure you Arley Hall is firmly in Blackrod despite its WN postcode.

Before the reorganisation of boundaries Aberdeen and Arley Hall was within the Wigan boundary. i.e. Aspull UDC

Comment by: Brian B on 6th February 2019 at 18:43

Alan, some of us in Blackrod have a Wgan telephone code but we are still in Blackrod!!!

Comment by: Alan on 6th February 2019 at 19:57

So sorry to hear that Brian!

Veronica,
Perhaps it`s because Wigan Corporation buses had a regular route there.

Comment by: Veronica on 8th February 2019 at 13:41

You are probably right Bewley as there was decent bus services up till a few years ago. BLackrod does seem nearer to Wigan than Bolton. It seems strange to me that Dicconson Lane comes under Bolton! We get one bus an hour now to go to Aspull. The same with Blackrod- I had to walk from Tanner's Brew last year when the bus didn't turn up to the Royal Oak at Westhoughton. I was shattered when I finally got home.
