The building No 28 WILSON & HARWOOD CLOTHIERS is now the Thomas Cook Travel Agents, and was previously JACKSONS the Tailors. The building centre picture, with the shuttered windows, was a boot repair shop and was demolished at the turn of the century and replaced by the Transport Department Offices, which were officially opened in 1905.

Just noticed the advert on the gable end of the building "TIMBERLAKES FOR BIKES"

Just a thought although it's very interesting to see those advertisements, it's not often we see billboards on buildings these days. I may be mistaken - certainly don't see any where I live.

My grandfather worked at Wilson & Harwood when it was a jewellers and pawnbrokers and I still have some jewellery presentation boxes with the name on them.

Suzanne any chance you could send scans of the boxes showing the name?
