My hubby Peter worked in Commercial Yard when I met him, at Sawbridge's Butchers. What lovely, quaint places we have lost in the name of progress.

Golden Days Irene. I remember being part of a 'rum' and rather large crew that made 'The Commercial' its second port of call one night some years' ago. We must have reached the pub well before 7:30? by which time the pub was absolutely chocka.

Philip THE COMMERCIAL was one of the best pubs in the town Along with the Market. It was always a port of call on nights out around town and after finishing work on a Saturday dinner time. That part of town should never ever have been demolished .

Does anyone remember a barbers in Commercial Yard. It’s a long time ago, late 1950’s, but I seem to recall climbing up a rickety wooden staircase to the shop, with my Mum. Unusual for me inasmuch as my Dad would normally have taken me for my haircut at a tiny barbers, at the end of Swan Lane, Hindley Green.

I remember a barbers in Commercial Yard I went to as a child. I think we called it Moot Hall, whether that was it's proper name I don't know. I don't have a memory of stairs though.

As for the pub, later I knew Jackie Latham, not as landlord but via his motorcycling hobby. He had a twin-port Rudge amongst others, and of course his Jaguar. What a nice bloke he was.
