The details on the rear of this old 6 x 6 cms print are: "L.T.E. Q28 at F. Cowley'S Yard, Pennington, Leigh. 23/10.55." The reg is BXD 549

The London Transport Class Q (AEC), was an odd mid engined design for the time. Introduced in the 30's and replaced by the mid 50's this example was presumably in Leigh for disposal - but others may know more.

Chris...The AEC Q Type was an unusual single deck bus.
Its engine was low down on the offside, behind the offside
front wheel. Compared with other AEC buses, the Q model was
not a success, and I believe only just over 100 were built.

Ray, would this bus have been in use with the Green Line rural services , rather than London Transport, who didn't seem to operate single deckers?

DerekB...The London Transport AEC Q buses were mainly green
on the rural routes, but just a few were red at times.
Put AEC Q into your Google thingamy, and you will see lots
of info about the AEC Q. There were some AEC Q double deck
buses, Grimsby Corporation, amongst a few others had some.
On the subject of single deck buses, I am trying to find a
picture of Ribble 899, reg no. ECK 899E, one of my favourite
machines to drive during my 2 years with Ribble in the late
1960s. Regards, Ray.

Thanks for the info, Ray

This was London Transport Country Area Q28, new in 1935. Worked out of Amersham, St Albans and Reigate garages before withdrawal in April 1953. It was sold in September 1953 so could have been at Cowley's yard from back then.
