A photo, taken by my father, of my mother during their courting days, around 1939 to 1940, at Mesnes Park. Cannot add any more to the story since mam passed away in 2001 aged 81 and dad in 2009 aged 93.

What a beautiful young lady must have been hard years but happy years.

No matter what the year is the beauty of a young woman always shines through a very nice photograph of your mother.

Very elegant lady indeed Keith. Lovely picture.

A lovely girl- she looks quite modern. I recall having shoes like those.

Ed and John, thank you for your kind comments. Yes, mam occasionally mentioned how difficult it was for them (her family) in the 1930's and at times it was hard but she was always positive and in the main happy.

I truly appreciate all comments and I thank you, mam was very unassuming and liked straight talking, very rarely if I'd done something wrong, I made sure I was not to be found.

When women looked like women.

Somewhere along the line we lost something . I have my own views which could run into a book. This picture speaks volumes . You can’t teach what you can’t see lad ... This lady shows grace and beauty without even trying . You can’t buy that from Tesco’s or even my beloved Woolies..

Beautiful young woman and so smart.

Poise, beauty, elegance and grace. Where are the poets?

Comment by: Veronica on 15th June 2018 at 19:27

Most girls then were innocent and yet dignified and kept to a certain code of behaviour. Modest and yet smart in dress. It was still prevalent to behave like that I believe in the sixties, despite the so called 'permissive
society'. ( Up North anyway.)

Gdub the poets are on PAD organising future stage productions. (Sorry Keith.)

Seated poise , hands that know ,
smile not too much but enough to show
a simple moment caught in time
this my mother, beloved mine
Grace and beauty , modest to, style and elegance
God gave to you , I Thankyou mam ....for my time ....with you ..

Yes, she's certainly a lovely-looking lady.Stylish, smart and she looks so happy too.I remember having some dark brown leather ankle-strap shoes like these.Definitely a world away from ripped jeans and the plastered on make-up you see a lot now.
