Is that a Lambretta Scooter I see in the background?
I really like this photo Andrew. I like the rickety gate and the rambling fence. I like the unmade up dirt road and the unmanicured grass. It all reminds me of Aspull in the 1950s, when the moorland was left to do it's own thing and no one felt the need to beautify it.
A lot of that land is now covered with houses and I know that people need somewhere to live...but I still miss the way it was.
I have always admired these cottages - and such a lovely location. I imagine people stay in them for years and years. Hardly ever see a 'For Sale' sign,
This is Stone Row and although they are just off Wigan Road, New Springs they are actually in Haigh. The boundary is just in front of the cottages which is an underground stream and emerges further downstream after passing under the canal. Further still downstream it became known as the Yellow Brook.
