What road is the Black horse on Shevington ?

Comments by Rev David Long, 3rd May 2018  david@scars.org.uk
It was at the end of Shevington Road... Standish.

Comments by John, 5th May 2018
Alan, it was on the corner of Almond Brook Road and Arbour Lane at Almond Brook

Comments by John, 5th May 2018
Alan, more or less where Charnley Arms is now.

Comments by Jonno, 6th May 2018
John, it was 2 to 3 hundred yards from the bottom of Arbour Lane. As David says it was on the corner of Shevington Road and Almond Brook Road, the address would have been Almond Brook Road.

Click on Places, Almond Brook Standish, there is a photo of the pub on there.

Jonno, Arbour Lane goes roughly in a semi-circle from Almond Brook Road, opposite St Stephens Road, emerging back on Almond Brook Road next to the Charnley Arms (there's a road name sign there on Google street view), just before the start of Shevington Lane. It's this end of Arbour Lane at Almond Brook that I was meaning. Apologies if I didn't make this clear.

Sorry John, no it doesn't,look at the map, it says Shevington Road.

Once again, sorry John, apology necessary, it IS now Arbour Lane, i have lived in Standish for 76 years and never realised it had been changed from Shevington Road to Arbour Lane.

Arbour lane runs in a semi circle from the charnley arms onto almond brook rd opposite st stephens rd ; the other part of the original shevington lane is now aspinall rd ; this changed after the bridge to nowhere was built

Jonno, no problem. I suppose they changed the name after the "new" road section to the M6 and Shevington was built and named Shevington Lane, to avoid confusion.
National Library of Scotland has a good maps section where you can overlay an old Ordnance Survey map with a variety of modern maps and slide from one to the other seeing exactly where old long-gone buildings stood in relation to modern street lay-outs. This link should show the Black Horse/Charnley Arms area -
