One of the oldest buildings in Wigan i.e. 1800. Shame on Wigan Council...

What happened to those shop windows?

You'd have to go to places like Chester now to see beautiful buildings like this one...yes Ron,shame on Wigan Council..whatever were they thinking of.

I remember my Mother going into Hunters chemist, he used to mix different herb preparations, my Mother swore by his remedies.

Ron, I think you are mistaken regarding the age of this building. 1800 relates to when Hunters chemist was established. You have previously posted a photo of these buildings from 1910 and they are not the mock Tudor style of this one.

It was a lovely old building with a 'Dickensian' feel to it...should have been treasured and made the most of. The whole of the centre should have been renovated in such a way that the old was retained to keep its own identity.... Much like Chester! But that's a 'pipe dream' now!

Phil if you look at picture 1464 taken by J Cooper the building looks the same i.e. 3 stories, window configuration is the same, and a pitched roof, so the building must be pretty old. Probably had the mock Tudor frontage later?
