View taken in the park Girl holding a baby. Pity it isn't in colour as the flowers look magnificent.

Taken around 1940s-1950s with the Rhododendrons and Lupins in bloom, I'd say June/July.
Good one Ron.

This is when parks were parks.PLEASE KEEP OFF THE GRASS. Mick put a photo which shows people do not give a toss these days!

Spot on pw. Those days they had Park keepers and the gates were locked at sunset.

It was much better when Councils wasn't united like Wigan Council, Ince, Hindley, Abram, Ashton and Aspull was all independent.

No drunken loud mouths then sprawled all over the park.

While I'm having a field day choosing which colours I would use for a colourised version of this scene, Ron's photo maintains its own special appeal.
A down-the-middle blue for the clump of lupins on the left left, a pale orange for the two clutches of snapdragons that lie immediately beneath them, the pansies on the right-hand bend ... boy this is fun ... "Morning, madam."

Sorry but I have to disagree with you Garry. Look up close at the woman and baby....they are not dressed 40s/50s style.
I would say the pic was taken in late Edwardian times. I am happy to have someone to say I am wrong !

An ideal subject for the colourists among us.

Definitely Edwardian. It's also got that certain 'air' about it.

Comment by: Garry on 31st March 2018 at 18:12

I won't disagree with you Helen, it's Sherry time when I've stoked up the fire. x

OK cheers Helen.

I wouldn't like to drag Garry's recycling bin up the path with all the empty Sherry bottles in it! ;o))

The days when Jubillee Park didnt have CCTV cameras watching over everyone. More of the ususal "theyre there to deter antisocial behaviour, drunks, terrorists" blaa blaa excuses. The park dosent have a crime and disorder issue, neither does the playground adjacent to the park, which by the way also has CCTV (thank god i dont take my kids there as i dont want their privacy being intruded on), so why are they monitoring the place?. No more Big Brother.
