What would I give to go back and have a pint in there...

My goodness that is old I wonder when that pub was built - in the mid 1700's I should imagine when stage coaches were the traffic of the day. There must have been stabling available as well around the back.

Veronica, the Daguerrotype (one method of taking photos) was made available to the public as early as 1839 and the glass negatives by 1851 and there are photos on wigan world that are definitely from the 1860's at least, if not a little earlier, so stabling would have been a common enough feature when this photo was taken.

Ben, Fox-Talbot's paper negative callotype process was available at the same time as Daguerre's process.
