1954 Tour of Britain riders going down Wallgate. In the early years of the tour it came through Wigan most years. I don't remember many motor cycle escorts or team cars then!

Is the building in the photo which has "Dist" on it, The Moon Under Water, now?

Interesting photo which I have never seen before wonder what the shop between the Midland bank and the Raven pub was

Was this the milk race

I think the building is District Bank, which became NatWest and is now Reflex bar on the corner of King St.

The building in question is definitely what is now "Moon Under Water".

Correct, Gideonfel - it is now the Moon Under Water. The Midland Bank can be seen on the opposite corner of Wallgate and Library Street, where it was for years.

Now that I look at it with specs on, it is Library St. I always thought The District Bank was on the corner of King St.

The District Bank was on King Street as you say, Kenee. Its postal address was number 1 King Street.
The sign reading 'Dist...' which can be seen on the corner of Library St in this photo, possibly relates to another business with a similar name.
