He wrote the 1916 musical comedy Chu Chin Chow, in which she starred for 2000 performances.
Pictured playing croquet in 1906 - pic from Wikipedia.
Found whilst researching the names of nurses who worked at The Beeches VAD Hospital in WW1 - one was a Miss M Brayton, who may be related.
Wasn't she a very striking young woman..when females looked like females.
Well Rev David, She was a good looking woman but you would need a pair of step ladders to give her a kiss.
Rev. appears you are kowtowing to the political correctness brigade line. She is an ACTRESS and always will be.
If she says it's twelve o'clock, it's twelve o'clock!
On the 1881 Directory for Hindley (under the 'Stuff' heading)John Grindall Brayton is a surgeon living at the White House, Stony Lane (later renamed Liverpool Road. At his daughter Mary's baptism at St.Peter's on August 8th 1887, he is noted as living in Market Street, Hindley.
I bet my Crompton ancestors would have doffed their caps to this lady on Stoney Row....
John G,
I happen to know where you can get a most splendid set of ladders!
Why thank you poet, let's hope it's a step in the right direction.
Elizabeth - you've got the wrong Dr Brayton - Mary Connell Brayton's father was Thomas Brayton. I'd like to know if he was related to Lily's father, John Grindall Brayton - it's odd there are two doctors of the same name in Hindley at the time.
just done some research and they were brothers both born in Moresby, Cumberland, England
John lived at the White House Hindley and thomas at Moresby House
Thanks, Winnie. I assume John was the elder? Perhaps you could email me - as I've a few questions you might have answers to?
