Thanks A.W. Now I know why the name is familiar. Many moons ago I lived at Orskirk Rd, Holland Moor. We used to wander far & wide in those days on our bikes or just ambling along. Knew the Tawd Bridge & Digmoor area well.

Some of my distant ancestors came from these here parts around Digmore Late 1700s to 1800's I like to think they may have known George Lyon!

The 1901 Census lists 40-year-old Up Holland born clogmaker Mr Henry Smith as being the Cross Keys publican.

The Cross Keys was on Grimshaw Lane, a bit higher up than the Grimshaw Lane Inn, which is still there.

Cliff, the name of the pub always fascinated me as a kid. We used to have occasional trips to Ormskirk and Southport by bus from UpHolland and I always used to look out for this pub from the bus.

Your right to, it was a Walkers pub in the 1960s.
