Taken from roughly the same spot as in #29814 view. Morrison Construction(now Galliford Try) was constructing flood protection works to the River for the EA. As H &S adviser for the company, this was one of my contracts to visit.Much has changed since the 1950's. Douglas Terrace must be where the Asda Car park is shown.

Yoo know when you think about it, in terms of the fact that the location there, is probably the lowest point in Wigan, geographically speaking and it is at the side of a river and rivers flood when there as been a lot of rain falling, it really was a stupid place to build a big Asda and Retail Shopping Park ...

Coming round from Asda the original Adam Bridge now facing Southgate is undergoing essential structural work with cones making the four lane road down to two lanes, you'd have thought the council would have sorted that out when the new road layout was being put into place.
