Great photo Ron - I'm always interested in when Wigan photos could have been taken, the earliest so far have been from the 1860's. The "clue" here could be the advert for "Tit-Bits" which started publication in 1881.
Just to add to the above - it looks as if this photo was taken between 1892 and 1895. The advert for Sala's Journal helps here since which started in 1892 and finished in 1895.
My grandfather Thomas Bryson used to write articles in a monthly magazine, think it was entitled The Science & Art of Mining. It was published by Thomas Wall. I can remember going to a printing shop with him to deliver his paperwork & sitting on a high stool while he was busy. Interesting pic.
Big Bill, (newspaper vender.) was a permanent feature outside of the Minorca, through the fifties, and early sixties. A very pleasant, and jovial character. Passed away in the sixties. R.I.P.
Those election posters. I used to set notice of election posters at Wigan Printing Co from 1965 to 1971. Some were in 3 parts and took 2 days to set, all by hand. Wonderful days, Wonderful mates. Some of the old journeyman sadly gone now. Loved them all
