Postcard view showing the "OLD RIFLE RANGE" Borsdane Wood early 1900's. Does anyone know anything about this "Rifle Range"?

I don't know about the rifle range, but some of the local walkers still mention the 'powder house' as a landmark.

The rifle range was laid out in the mid 19th century. It appears on a couple of editions of OS maps. Parts of it are still traceable today.
A corps of the Lancashire Rifle Volunteers, the 82nd, known as the Amberswood Rangers established in 1861, used the range for prize competitions.
If I could remember how to do it I would post a map showing it, but its ages since I did and I'm not sure.
