Last days. The end is near as 48752 shuffles its way with a train probably from St Helens. I wasn't familiar with this section of Wigan's network, choosing instead to follow the L&Y route from Manchester. But the sight of Stanier's locomotives always inspires me to put pen to paper. The semaphore signals add to the nostalgia...

This coal train will most likely be signaled to the Fir tree then on to the Whelley line, then change at De-Trafford junction and through Hindley station.
