Robert Sankey sits astride his Triumph Thunderbird in Skitters wood Ashton. I suspect the houses in the distance would have been the ones in Old road. RBG archive.

Top marks Ozzy. She's an early fifties sprung hub Trumpy. Worth a quid or two now but no doubt the pride and joy of your mate, young Mr Sankey, whatever it's material worth back then which probably wasn't much. Ah' nostalgia, it's much more expensive than it used to be.

What's the RBG archive?. Am I to assume the fields in the background are where the housing estate behind Lowbank Rd now stand? because I cant figure out where abouts in Skitters Wood this is if those distant houses are in Old Rd.

I think this is at the southern end of the unmetalled track which ran from Low Bank Road (Near to Bill Ratcliffe's truck stabling) to the centre of the Skitters.

You could be right Ab, in fact you're probably both right. 50 years is a long time. It's just that the angle would suggest to me that the houses are on Old road, close to the junction with Low Bank road, but I could be mistaken. Put quite simply Ab, RBG archive means that the photographs are the property of R.B.Grundy, and not myself.

just what I was thinking, I'd say this is at bottom of skitters track from Low Bank Road too , with the bridge over the brook just to the right and the pens behind where the camerman is on this shot. My dad also had one of the pens there, I think there were 3 altogether. One of the other pictures, the one with the other bike, is much closer to some houses so could be maybe just behind the old road houses. Difficult to tell really
