Hot rodding Ashton style. Is there no end to your talents Ozzy? Great photo.
Abit of mild mischief I suppose, nothing bad. Wouldn't get away with it today. I bet Skitters Wood was a lot more traversable than it is today. With the amount of rain we've had it has made it almost impossible to walk through without getting leg deep in mud, even in summer it's like a mud bath.
Some areas were a mud bath even back then in 1960's.
School cross country traversed the Skitters, and involved us jumping Millingford Brook. That was not arduous, but the banks could not stand up to the repeated slap of so many feet hitting them.
There occurred a phenomenon, which I now know to be called 'liquefaction'. The next pair of feet to hit the bank would descend into about three feet depth of liquid mud.
Well, there was a lake there !!!! filled-in I'm told with glass bottls from Pilkington's.
I'm still struggling to see where exactly these photos were taken. Is this one at top going towards m6 and looking back towards Low Bank Road or is it looking scross what is now RL Hughs field towards Ashton again ?
