Looking at the background this could be a southbound train approaching Springs Branch. It will pass under two more bridges before passing the MPD. It is early morning, if I have got my orientation correct...Any offers? Garry?
Looks like a Stanier Black five in full steam, great sight.
Just for info" - it was an evening shot.
If this is an evening shot I think the location is Rylands Sidings/Whitley Crossing.
Then it's not Springs Branch and the ex LNWR line. Sorry, I misread the opening post. Whitley is not a place that I am familiar with and I never felt the need to venture there in spotting days. I much preferred the Springs Branch section and the surrounding area.
if the previous photo was taken at Beggars Walk crossing, the sidings behind the engine are part of Rylands Sidings from where a line ran down to Rylands Mill behind Mesnes Park. The houses are on Dawson Avenue off Gidlow Lane.
from its exhaust strength i would say its going north, shes digging in up the bank.the other way southbound she would have shut off steam.
