Think this the lodge at the end of Beech Walks in Standish, where it joins Almond Brook Road at St. Marie's R.C.Church
Thanks for the info. next time I'm up there I'll check it out. There appears to be some kind of a business/works yard? next to the lodge but I can't read what the sign says?
These little lodges seemed to have been built to a particular design. There is/was one on the right hand side of the main road from Pemberton to Orrell Post. It was the lodge of a large house.
Just checked this photograph against another on the site showing Beech Walks lodge and it isn't the lodge at Beech Walks. The windows and roof are different..
You're right - it isn't either of the lodges in Standish. Both have square roofs, with the chimney at the apex - this has a conventional roof. It looks as if you can see the 'big house' for which it is the lodge in the background, over the men's shoulders.
If its the lodge I mentioned earlier, between Pemberton & Orell Post, the grandmother of a childhood friend of mine from Holland Moor lived in it. The big house was lived in by her Grt aunt or some such relative.
Helen of Troy - the lodge you refer to was confusingly, the lodge to Orrell Lodge (that was actually the name of the big house). It is still there, next to 118 Orrell Road.
I'm afraid it's not the one in the photo. The one on Orrell Road is longer, and more oblong in shape, with two chimney stacks - one at each end of the building.
Thanks Mick, its nice to know the old lodge is still there.
