I remember the Newsagent's Stall at the end and the café.....The Baked Potato, was it called?.....halfway along, and a milk vending machine.

I remember this area but that was when to the left of the bus was the cobbled market place where Wigan Fair was held. Waited for the bus to Ormskirk at the stop the other side of of the building.

Helen Of Troy, I too recall the Ormskirk and Southport buses going from the other side, they later moved to Stand D shown on the photo.

If my memory serves me right, I believe the Shevington bus left, from where the bus is parked.

The newsagent was Gore's and the cafe was The Baked Potato. Where the bus is stood was where the 333/343 buses use to go to Shevington/Appley Bridge/Wringhtington from. There was a milk machine up against the wall that was popular with people waiting for buses on a Sunday after a Casino all-nighter. Where 'stand D' is in the picture was where the 32/38 to Manchester used to go from, later replaced by the 366/376 to Ormskirk and Southport. The other side of the phone boxes was the 59 to Bolton. For some reason this was one of the few that they never moved the stop. In front of that were the 54/57/58 to Leigh and the 60/61 to Warrington and Earlestown. The stops at the far end took you to Chorley/Preston/Leyland by Ribble bus, Kitt Green by corpy bus and the express coaches to further afield by Standerwick/Scout/Ribble. There were also those routes that only ran occasionally to Parbold, Bispham Green, Roby Mill, Crawford and Lower Adlington. Much more more variety than there is today.
