A one time haven of wildlife, sadly ruined by the eyesore of a dam and man made flood plain having being constructed, this was called for after the natural flood plain at Newtown/Marsh Green was allowed to be built on.

Well said Cyril.

I was interested to hear that the flood defences were placed there because of building further downstream in the Marsh Green area. I had assumed the "dams" had been built to keep water back and prevent town centre flooding. This I know did happen to Douglas House , at a guess 30 years ago. I am not disputing what you say but would be interested to know a little more.
