Thanks to Trevor Smith( Smith's Book Shop) for the photograph.
Front of Meesons sweet shop, which was on the left of the Court Cinema. It was part of the same building I don't know it it is still there?

I remember the shop near the cinema. There was also a Meeson's on the corner of Market St./Woodcock St. I bought an empty Quality Street tin from there to hold my Christmas Cake at school; we made the cake, then a few weeks later we put marzipan on, then another few weeks and we iced it.

Was it Meesons where you bought a quarter and got another quarter free?

I may be wrong Irene but I thought the shop on the corner of Woodcock Street was called Meekin's.

Irene, I too remember the other Meeson's shop on the corner of Market Street/Woodcock Street; used to spend ages gazing at the trays of goodies!

Early 1960s Westheads used to have a sweet shop in same place my Mother used to work there .Perhaps they got it after Meesons

The one on the corner of Woodcock Street was Meesons. They made their own chocolate bars which were so thick you couldn't get your teeth through them. There was also a little haberdasher next door (a Miss Tickle) she sold lovely lace collars.

I was only thinking of the little haberdashers last week! I remember buying a lace collar from there, and I have been looking for one recently but with no luck. They are probably available online, but how nice it was when we had haberdashery shops where you could actually handle the goods.

Irene, have you tried the one and only in the Market Hall.

No, Maureen. Will have a look next week. Do you remember the little haberdashery on Woodcock Street? x.

Yes Irene,,I could cry when I think of all the shops we used to have..theyve stolen our childhood and teenage memories .

Irene there is a Habadshery in Market St Westhoughton ...a bit expensive but I think you might get fixed up. The shop is opposite the Town Hall. The lady who owns it is also a seamstress. She might be able to advise you.
