The door on the right appears to be at an angle, indicating being on a corner of Wallgate and ????? Can anyone whereabouts in Wallgate.??

AB - it was on the stretch of Wallgate between Caroline Street and the start of Pottery Road.
There were a few streets running off Wallgate along this stretch - Adelaide Street and Bridgewater Street being two of them.

On an old map in the area you refer to shows a Public House on the comer of Alker St so this could be it In the 30/40's Farrs coach works was there and Reters saw mill on the other coiner of Alker St

In the 1950s/60s there was a bus stop on Wallgate outside a Golden Lion pub, this was approximately where HSS Hire is now, the side street looks to be Egerton Street. AB you're right Peters wood yard was further up - until it caught fire.

There was another Golden Lion on Wallgate too, much further up near to The Raven, must have been confusing for the posties.

The two pubs were known as the Top Lion and Bottom Lion, to try and avoid confusion.

More information on the original picture of the pub on another section of the site.
