Thanks to Trevor Smith( Smith's Book Shop) for the photograph.
I have yet to understand why people actually like this ghastly man
I am pretty sure I remember this used to the Martins Bank Building. I was a customer of theirs just before they were taken over by Barclays around 1970. For several years afterwards the Barclay cheques used to have a grasshopper on them if you were an ex Martins client, rather than the usual Barclay eagle. trivial I know but at least it showed someone thought about it.
I think the crowd turned up to see Red Rum who was there for opening pictured in window
Red rum is in the photo. But you've got to zoom in to see him
I am sure that bit of blank white wall on the right housed the very first hole in the wall cash dispenser in Wigan
the thought of John McCririck being there is enoguh to put people off.
The mans an absolute Dinosaur, glad we don't have to see his ugly mug on TV any more
John McCririck was a most objectional chap but could ieave the present pundits standing with great racing knowledge!
