The damaged car looks very much like a Hillman Minx, what's left of it!

If the driver got out of this alive he was a LUCKY PERSON.

You would never find so little traffic on this section of motorway at 1630 hrs on any day now! It would be unusual to find it so quiet at 4.30 a.m. nowadays!

Never AA, look at the vent just after the rear door, the Cortina mk2 has a lower horizontal one!

Hillman Minx or Hunter. 10th August 1981 was on Monday.

A Hillman, without a doubt.

I agree, looks like a Hillman. No idea if a Hunter or Minx, but I think they looked pretty much alike. It's possibly a later model (late 60s-70), and even in 1981 the car would've been over 10 years old; shows people drove much older cars then and kept them longer, unlike today where everyone seems to have a brand spanking new car, then after 2 years they change it for another one, just an image thing so they can keep up with the Jones's nextdoor. Very little traffic indeed considering the time of day, today it would be gridlocked. Far too many vehicles on the roads today. Hope noone was killed.

Today Al, many cars are on lease which mean you never own the car, you just hand it back and walk away or get another brand new one in three years time. You just pay for the rest of your life and the car dealers rub their hands. If you go over the permitted miles you also get charged per mile.

I recall this accident and unfortunately it did result in a fatality
