Westwood power station. I can't begin to imagine the enormous number of comments that this shot will provoke.

My father worked here circa 1954, installing the generators.

This is a view of the north side of the boiler house. Chimney is the west stack. This photo is taken from the canal side. The lower roof is over the coal conveyor which was used to take coal into the station after collection by one of the two jetty cranes from the canal barges. These were in operation until the early 1970s when it became less expensive to bring coal in by road from Yorkshire than by barge from Bickershaw Colliery.
Long time ago but I think that the above is correct.

My dad drove the cranes at Westwood until they became redundant. He also drove the "Chaseside" on the coal tip.
