Agnes Unsworth a butcher(my ggggrandmother) was charged with Breach of the Sunday Trading act on January 29th 1860 for selling meat in the Market Place seven minutes after midnight. All stalls had to be cleared by twelve o'clock on Saturday nights, Agnes had few customers still waiting to be served so she carried on serving them a policeman on duty reported her.

interesting to see the orinal facades of theses buildings before the Mock Tudor Black and White facades were added in the 1920's I believe.

What do you think. Quarter to seven at night, or quarter to seven in the morning.? I am sure in those days the parish church clock would have been correct. Rushton's were a well known Wigan, and district grocery firm for many years.
