As a Buddy Holly fanatic thisnis agreat photo.I did meet the receptionist who worked at the Granf Hotel where the Crickets srayed. He walked her home and asked her tongo tobAmeruca wirh her at the end of the tour. Great musician whose songs are still playes today.
Bill I think the way you described Buddy was fantastic, well done I enjoyed reading it. I also liked Buddy Holly he was a young star taken to early, he was about to change rock and pop music in a big way before the Beatles
But alas that was not to be.
I think Geoff Shryhane wrote an article in the Observer quite a few years ago, about Buddy Holly and the Receptionist. I think he interviewed the Receptionist, who said her parents wouldn't let her go with him to America?
Quite right Ron. Her name was Barbara and in later life she lived oposite the Boars Head. Sadly she is no longer with us. The night after the Ritz the Crickets were in Liverpool and Buddy pleaded with her to accompany him. However she was unable to ger rine off work. What might havr brrn! One of my treasured possessions is aletter from Barbara telling me this.
That's odd - the backdrop is exactly the same as on his appearance on the U.S Ed Sullivan TV show. It ain't the Ritz.

Correct Steve, i was there that night and definately not the Ritz.
I can't imagine there being any photos of Buddy Holly at the Ritz, and if there are then they will be very rare and from newspaper sources. The same goes for when Roy Orbison once played at the Ritz. I've heard that when Buddy first showed up on stage at the Ritz he asked his group which town they were in as he apparently didn't have a clue where he was or had forgotten, to which they told him "this is Wigan", to which Buddy replied "ahh yes, Wigan". Don't know if that's true or not.
That was the info. that was with the photograph just goes to prove don't believe everything you read<g>
Ron,The receptionist name could'nt be, it's to much of a coincidence, after all these years have we found the one and only, ( Peggy Sue) and she came from Wigan.
Sorry Bill, I did not see your comments about her name being Barbara, It doesn't have the same ring to it really, ( Barbara Sue) it's not the same.
I saw a bio-pic of Buddy on tv a few years ago and the "real" Peggy Sue was interviewed.
Interesting comments about the woman he asked out. You can't help wondering whether or not he had some sort of premonition about his future, and wanted to make the most of his life. When he got back to America that year he met a girl in the recording studios in New York in June. He asked her out at that first meeting and proposed on their first date and they were married in August. She was pregnant when he was killed in a plane crash the following February and unfortunately miscarried because of the shock. A very sad story for what was a hugely talented man and, by all accounts a well loved man in the industry.
Peggy Sue was on the programe Christmas eve
