I remember the year before this was taken, June 1967, we camped on the common at Elmers Green. We rose a 4am and walked to Ashurst Beacon. Not a scally in sight. Just the sound of gentle birdsong and the occasional owl finding its way home. When we got back to camp, we had coffee in tin cups and cornflakes with marvel milk. We later walked it home to Pemberton. I could write a book about it.

This area of UpHolland has changed beyond all recognition in the lst 40 years or so, I reckon most people would argue it was not for the better.

This view is one I grew up with from the rear of 236 Ormskirk rd. Loved walking all those fields. Summer and winter through the sixties and seventies. Really sad they built on all those memories. What surprised me as they dug the ground out at the rear of 236, was how many mine shafts they had to fill in. One went down at an angle ,with sand stone sides. The others were bottle type ones.Yet they still built over them. Also the sad loss of all the farms .
