This picture is already on the site however this is a much better copy. Shows the Three Crowns Pub. Never seen a view of this pub from the front

What a brilliant photo of our town, as it would have been known by our families in the 1930s. Thankyou so much for posting this, Ron; I have never seen it before.

I'm familiar with this photo and I agree Ron the quality of this one is much better. A great nostalgic image of days gone by in Wigan.

As Keith says Ron,I have seen it before and this one is much better..it's a real moment in time isn't it..it gives me a lovely warm feeling towards our town centre.

A sign of things to come? Only the young man not wearing a hat or cap.

You're right there Ron, you can see the concern etched on their faces.

Great photo. What stuck out for me in this photo is the amount of cars apparently everywhere and parked along the street, yet every time I hear about these early pre and post war days - up until the late 50s/early 60s, im always told that no one could afford a car unless you were a Dr or such like.

al,
I don't know who the cars belong to but you can be pretty well sure they did not belong to a blue collar worker.

Great and nostalgic photo of Wigan. Well done Ron!

My great grandfather John Conroy was landlord of the Three Crowns about 1880-1890s.

Take the age of the most modern vehicle, as the year of the photo. So about 1938.

I think the car is an Austin Ten, the Model is a 1946 but first launched in 1939. So no earlier than 1939
